All is set for the maiden public lecture of the Jesuit
Social Centre in Accra, dubbed “Faith in the Public Life,” the advent lecture
series features the retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice William
Atuguba.
The lecture which is being put together by the Jesuit Social Centre in Ghana in collaboration with the Christ the King Catholic Church, Cantonment is expected to begin at 7pm today following an opening Mass at 6pm.
Speaking in an interview, Director of the Jesuit Social
Centre, Rev. Fr. Kpanie Addy SJ said the initiative is the brain child of the
Jesuit society which will serve as a spring board that will showcase the Centre
in Ghana which will serve as an interface between Peace and Justice and will
feature Catholics who have served in public offices on various national issues
pertaining to Peace and Justice.
“We are launching ourselves as a centre with a public
lecture this evening and we have Justice William Atuguba as our first speaker.
What we are doing is, these individuals we have identified are devout Catholics
who have served in public office or are still serving in public office and we
will find out how their Catholic faith have impacted their public service,” Fr.
Kpanie Addy said.
The Jesuit Social Centre in Ghana seeks engagement
which authentically expresses Christian faith, remains close to the poor and marginalized
and advocates for justice in political structures and expresses the commitment
of the Society of Jesus to an Africa and for that matter, a Ghana where human
rights, freedom and solidarity are the foundation of integration.
