The St. Catherine
Girls Senior High School (SCASCO) at Agbakorpe in the Keta-Akatsi Diocese has
launched its 10th anniversary with a durbar at the Diocesan pastoral Centre at
Torve where the school began.
Launching the
Anniversary on behalf of Dr. Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, Mr.
Louis Emmanuel Agama, the District Chief Executive of South Tongu, commended
the Catholic Church for managing their schools well.
He lauded the
Church in the Keta-Akatsi Diocese for the special way it handled SCASCO from
its beginning up to its current state. He unveiled the
anniversary cloth to officially mark the beginning of a year-long activities
including quiz competitions and debates, seminars, blood donation, excursion,
clean up exercises, games, career and culture.
Mad. Enyonam Afi
Amafugah, the Regional Director of Education, reminded the students that the
Church established the School to champion and promote Girl child education,
hence they need to study hard to become useful in the future.
Most Rev. Anthony
Adanuty, Bishop Emeritus of the Keta-Akatsi Diocese commended the relentless
efforts, support and quick responses of donor agencies and applauded the
efforts of the Priests, the Catholic women and lay faithful for the zeal with
which they brought the urgent need of establishing a girls’ second cycle in the
Diocese.
On his part, Most
Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, also thanked all who had supported the School
and called on all stakeholders to continue extending their support for the
development of the school.
In her welcome
address, Mad. Hellen Abla Avevor, the Headmistress of the School praised the
donors whose great financial support brought the fast infrastructural
development to SCASCO.
The launching
ceremony was chaired by Torgbui Adzomani IV, Dufia of Agbakorpe and attended by
old students, parents, Priests, former heads of various second cycle
institutions.
SCASCO which
started with a student population of 77 who were exclusively boarding student on
the 5th October 2009 now records a student population of 925 among
which 58 are now day students.
The school’s
airforce cadet mounted a colourful guard of honour at the beginning of the
ceremony with school cultural troupe displaying various cultural dances to
grace the occasion. The climax of the
anniversary will take in October 2019
