Priests and parishioners of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa have kick started the Christmas festivities with a festival of nine lessons and carols.
The event dubbed “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” translated as Glory to God in the Highest saw performances from various groups and societies in the Church and attracted many from within and without the Church community.
Speaking in an interview, Chairman of the planning committee, Mr. Henry Atsu Mawusi described the event as a much anticipated one. Hence, unlike previous ones a lot went into preparing the grounds for the event.
“Parishioners have been expecting something new. We have had similar events over the years and at the Liturgical Committee level, we decided to make this year’s Christmas carol special. We did some cost analysis of how stage works, lightening and decoration will cost.
We also weighed various performances of previous carols in other to engage the various singing groups this year. Other individuals were also called on to help in this year’s carol which made the entire event successful,” he said.
Mr. Atsu Mawusi added that publicity this year was intensified. All these factors according to him accounted for a successful event this year.
For his part, Liturgical Committee Chairman Mr. Victor Yevugah expressed his satisfaction for the general success of the program and urged that much more efforts is employed in subsequent events.
The festival of nine lessons and carols is a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesus which is traditionally followed at Christmas.
The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus the Christ id told in nine short bible readings from Genesis, the Prophetic Books and the Gospel interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and choral music.
