The first anniversary celebration of Our lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Kwabenya an outstation of the St. Dominic Catholic Church Taifa has been climaxed in the Archdiocese of Accra. The activities which commenced on 14th October, 2018 with the launch and an open forum ended last Sunday with a Eucharistic celebration led by the Parochial Administrator of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe.
Speaking in his homily, Fr. Codjoe emphasised
the need for Christians to emulate the humble nature of Christ. The celebration
was well attended by invited dignitaries and various societies from the mother
Church.

Speaking
in an interview, Chairman of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Mr. Charles
Appiasi expressed his appreciation to God for bringing the community this far.
He revealed that plans are advanced for the community to get a permanent place
of worship.
Chairperson
of the Pastoral Council of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Mr. Benjamin Nador, in
his goodwill message, congratulated members of the community and wished them
well in all their endeavor. For his part, Mr. Benjamin Oduro Gyamera, the
former PPC Chairman of St. Dominic, whose tenure of office saw the birth of Our
Lady of Fatima, recounted the history of the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic
community and commended the Parochial Administrator and the outreach ministry
for their commitment to the project.
ACTIVITIES
The
first year celebration was marked with series of activities which commenced on
14th October, 2018 with a launch and an open forum. On Monday, the 15th
of October, 2018, the Christian community met for their daily Bible discussions.
It was followed by Holy Mass led by Rev. Fr. Courage Senam Dogbey as the presider.
On Tuesday October 15, Parishioners met for a talk on “Mother Mary”
Delivering
the talk, Director of Catechesis,
Ghana Rev. Fr. Samuel Akoto Mensah urged participants to emulate the virtues
exhibited by Mother Mary. According to
him, no one has relied on her and lost track of their lives.
Revival
As
part of the celebrations, a three-day revival was held from Wednesday October
17 to Friday October 19. Associate Priest of St. Kizito Catholic Church, Nima. Rev.
Fr. Daniel Attipoe who spoke on the first day of the revival articulated ways
through which Christians can receive God’s blessings. Making reference to Matthew
5: 23-24, he added that Christians should have a reason for going to the
presence of God.

Also
appearing on the second day of the revival, Associate Priest of the St. Dominic
Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Courage Senam Dogbey recounted how many Christians
have lost hope in God. He encouraged Christians not to lose hope but keep believing
in God. Adding that, no matter the
situation, God will always make a way.
Speaking
on the final day of the Revival, Rev. Fr. Bright Fumey of the Saints Thomas
Moore and John Fisher Catholic Church added his voice to the need for
Christians and for that Matter Catholics to live with hope and faith.
The
Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church is an outstation of St. Dominic Catholic
Church, Taifa-North. It is situated at Kwabenya Chester Hills in the premises
of Mrs. Agnes Konadu Gyimah. The Church under the auspices of Rev. Frs.
Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe, and Courage Senam Dogbey, had its first Mass on Sunday,
22nd October, 2017 celebrated by the
Assistant Secretary General of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Rev. Fr.
Wisdom Larweh. The Mass recorded a total
number of 64 parishioners. Currently, Our Lady of Fatima has a total population
of about 90 Parishioners.
