The Holy Spirit Catholic Cathedral youth choir will in April
2018 outdoor the first ever orchestra in the history of the Catholic Church in
Ghana. The instruments donated by a patron of the choir last year, was
dedicated in December 2017 at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.
The instruments consists 6 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Cellos, 2 double bass,
2 Clarinets, Flute ,Trumpet , Trombone ,
French Horn , Keyboard and an Alto Saxophone. In an interview with Newswatch,
president of the choir, Mr. Sylvester Klu Hokey said he is excited to be a part
of the first ever Orchestra of the church in Ghana.
According to him, the choir has written to the National
Symphony Orchestra to train it's members ahead of a thanksgiving concert and
the official outdooring of the Orchestra.
Mr. Hokey added that the development meant more work for the
choir and he, together with other members will do all in their power to contribute to
the call to the new evangelisation through music.
"To say we are excited is an understatement. We hear we are the
first ever choir in the Catholic Church to have an Orchestra. This means more
work for us and it's an opportune moment for us to contribute to the new
evangelisation," he said.
