Youth of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa, are getting ready for a pacesetting strategic planning assembly to be held on January 1, 2018 at the Rufus recreational Park in Accra.
The 2018 and maiden assembly will among others seek to investigate the challenges and missing support systems or avenues in the Church for the youth and develop strategies to address them, break "perceived segregation" or classes existing among youth of the Church and put together ideas on how best to strengthen the activities of what will become a network of young people in the Church dubbed "Young Dominicans Network."
Raphael Anthony Quansah - Church Youth Council President
Speaking in an interview with NewsWatch, President of the Church Youth Council, Mr. Raphael Anthony Quansah said the assembly is expedient and happening at an excellent time. He said It has a get-together session where there will be enough to eat and drink. According to him, the youth council has strategically made this session a "bring and share" to get all and sandry participating.
"The group has the aim of networking and bringing the best out of everyone. The Get together is the first official program since the inception of the group and we are seeking to marshal everyone together, pen down productive plans for the new year and see how best we can achieve them. Its going to be a time for fun making, getting to know ourselves better as people in one church and drawing how best we can pull our potentials together to achieve something great for our church," Mr. Quansah said.
He further stated that the move is to strengthen efforts of Frs. Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe and Courage Senam Dogbey, as well as in resident priest Fr. Akoto Mensah (NCS-Director of Catechesis) to get the youth of St. Dominic Catholic Church to stand and be counted as far as the development of the Church is concerned.
The youth chaplain, Rev. Fr. Courage Senam Dogbey, expressed his appreciation to the leaders of the youth in the Church for an innitiative he describes as impressive.
"I am very much impressed about the move. This is one thing we have been telling them. The church is for the youth and whether it will be vibrant or not, depends largely on them. Yes the priests have a role to play but all can't be be done by us. I am impressed and I want to say thanks to the youth leaders for the move. Hopefuly, I will be there to support them," he said.
