Parochial Vicar of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, Taifa, Rev. Fr. Courage Senam Dogbey has asked Christians to live by virtues and principles as they await the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Delivering a sermon during a Holy Mass to mark Gaudete Sunday (Rejoycing Sunday) which is the third sunday in advent today, Fr. Courage tasked Christians to live by principles of "GPRS". An acronym that stands for Give thanks to God in all circumstances, Pray constantly, Rejoyce in all circumstances and Submit to the lord at all times.
He said being able to live by these principles will make christians worthy of their status and will go along way to help their spiritual life as well as the physical.
He said it is very easy for Christians to show appreciation to God in good times but when the bad moments come, they forget the popular saying "God is good all the time and all the time, God is good. And as such, they fail almost all the time to give thanks to their creator regardless of the circumstance they face.
Explaining the significance of the season of advent recorded in the readings for the day, He said God give signs to always show what He is about to do and he is always there to guide his children.
He said Christians, very often have a confusing identity due to the lack of self knowledge. Making reference to John the Baptist in John 1:6-8, 19-28, Fr. Courage said it is time christians become very clear about their identity.
This according to him is because John the Baptist who essentially became the guide of Christians towards the coming of Christ, knew who he was and what he was to come to do. As a result, he was able to boldly tell those who sort to know that he was not the Messiah.
He added that the Church sets aside the season of advent for Christians to prepare for the Lord’s coming again by turning away from sin and from everything and anything that would keep his children from pursuing His will.
He emphasised that being eager to do God’s will and be prepared to meet the Lord Jesus when he returns in glory is expedient in the life of every Christian.
