I woke up on 29th August expecting as
usual to receive a reflection on the daily readings from my pastor. Instead of
a reflection, I received a prayer request that was preceded by these words, “It
is amazing those God chooses as his servants. Far from perfect and bathed with
weakness, God chose some five men and ordained them priests some two years ago.
I was one of those chosen ones and it has been a humbling experience.”
It has been 24 months already when you got ordained
to stand in Persona Christi. I remember the day too well because I was so much
involved in the 2015 Accra Archdiocesan priestly ordination. Yes, I saw the look
on your face through the view finder of my camera. I am sure
you didn’t even take notice of my presence probably because I was too small to
be spotted or your head was filled with a host of thoughts. Either way, I
understand.
Ordination was over and you had to pose for the
cameras with your colleagues. You stood out. Huge! I also remember that scene
of now your boss Fr. Emmanuel Obeng Cudjoe kneeling before you and you raise
distressful hands in blessing. Wow! Why on earth will such a fine young man
want to be a priest?
But just as I stood as still to think, I heard a
soft voice saying “Not everyone can accept this teaching, but only those to
whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there
are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who
have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone
accept this who can.”
You
chose to be a priest. Forgoing the pleasure there is in getting married and enjoying a family life. I feel your pain bro, not about the pleasures though. I know how difficult it is to lead human beings. God gave us brains but we have traded it for nothing.
You were called to be a servant of God, but permit me to
say you have lost track along the line and have become a servant of
insignificant men like my kind. Rev. Fr. Courage Senam Dogbey, Pojoba Senam Karage
is the name you chose to be called by. I do not know what it means to be a
pojoba but methinks you guys are over hyping this. Lol.
Indeed I
have seen and encountered many priests but your kind is rare. You are a priest
who will do anything for his flock. I mean anything. Through you people like me
are becoming conscious of what it means to serve. Dear Fr. Courage, permit me
to give you some advice. The things we love are the most likely to kill us and
I do not want you to die young so please do not stress yourself.
I hope
you also know that we find ourselves in a world that does not appreciate people
when they are alive. Whatever you do,
people will talk about it so keep being you and continue to be that servant of
God. Please you are human, feel free to show your anger, sometimes be in a
carefree mode. When you were born you received love, when you die, you probably
will receive more, but in between, my dear, you just have to manage.
I am
glad I met you. Remember the conversation we had about priesthood? You are such
a real guy. Let me stop the unnecessary plenty talks and say congratulations on
your 2nd priestly anniversary. May Mawu Sogbolisa, He that created
birds and gave them feathers to fly give you wings to soar. May he make you
like the centipede; you will never be maimed when one of your legs is cut. I
love you. Afyshia pa!!
